This award will be presented at the end of the contest and is presented to someone who is outstanding on a single instrument, or in recognition of exceptional versatility on a number of instruments. It reflects the judges' opinion that the recipient is an accomplished musician who exemplifies the spirit of old time music. Previous winners of the Flemming Award are ineligible to receive it again. Their assistance is sought in choosing the recipient, as is the assistance of a representative well as the Friends of Florida Folk.
